Wanna Fix that Sloppy Shifter?

Just a fact of life, it happens over time…., at some point, your shifters gonna get sloppy, you’re gonna go from a strong confident shift to one that…. well lets face it, isnt as confident. You may have even missed a beautiful bang shift while leaving a redlight, dont feel embarassed about it, fix it! Confident, smooth shifting is something every rider appreciates—especially on long rides where constant gear changes can add up to fatigue. One of the biggest hidden factors in shift feel is the linkage rod, and that’s where the Art Cycles “Ripper Pole” Shift Rod upgrade stands apart.

Modern Indian motorcycle shift rods utilize plastic 6 mm bearings at the rod ends (in the pic is Indian factory rod in comparison to our upgraded one). While functional, the smaller bearing has less surface area and lower load capacity. Under repeated shifting loads, this can create additional friction, slight deflection, and wear in the linkage. The result is a shift feel that can become vague or require more effort over time. In the pic, is my personal rod after 30k miles. If you look close you’ll notice a slight bend to the factory rod, this came from the weak material and repeated shifts over the years.

The Art Cycles “Ripper Pole” Shift Rod improves this system by upgrading to larger, aircraft grade 8 mm diameter bearings. From an engineering standpoint, the benefits are straightforward:
